Peter Uihlein, OWGR – 87

Uihlein hasn’t hoisted a trophy since his maiden European Tour victory at the 2013 Madeira Islands Open and he’s eager to do so. The Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year also has the game in his bag to do so.

Uihlein is having a good season, starting with a T7 finish in January at the BMW South African Open. He’s followed with top-5s at the Dubai Desert Classic and the Tshwane Open and then he came achingly close to that second victory with a runner-up finish at the Open de France. The American’s T14 finish last week at the Irish Open came as the result of some impressive play. His only missed cut came at the U.S. Open.

Uihlein is going to get well ahead of the field off the tee but he may need to tamp it down a bit and try to impose a bit more control over those long bomber shots as he takes on Dundonald Links. That will bear watching. But if he can stay out of trouble and keep his ball going in the right direction I look for Uihlein to deliver a strong game this week. With a bit of luck he could contend.
