If you’re a PGA TOUR fan, the best thing about the new year isn’t an endless streak of college football bowl games, pitting college football’s superpowers against one another. No, you’re planted firmly in your recliner or on your sofa, and maybe even sipping a fruity little cocktail while taking in the magnificent vistas of Kapalua’s Plantation Course.

With only winners from the previous year invited, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions enjoys four days at one of the most beautiful, deceptively challenging courses on the planet.

The Pacific Ocean looming in the distance, a natural area filled with trees in the chasm between the tee and the green, and five punishing bunkers on steep slope around the green, all conspire to make a hole more challenging than it would be without that any piece of that combination of danger.

This hole is so beautiful, I wouldn’t even mess with the scorecard. Put me down for a 7. I’ll take a few happy swings, and continue making memories of the legendary Ben Crenshaw-Bill Coore design.
