Extreme 19th Hole best par 3s
ENTABENI, SOUTH AFRICA – JANUARY 07: A view of the Extreme 19th hole from the tee, Par 3 631m long, where the tee is at the top of Hanglip mountain and the green is the shape of Africa at the Legend Golf Course on the Entabeni Safari Reserve on January 7, 2009 in Entabeni, South Africa. The Legend Golf Course has been designed by 18 different golfers, each one doing an entire hole, plus an extreme 19th 631m long par 3 (Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images) /

Since the 1990s happened, the word “extreme” doesn’t mean quite as much as it used to. Everything back then, from nacho cheese chips to video games to deodorant was “extreme.” The question is raised: if everything is extreme, what’s actually extreme? How about a par-3 that you can only reach by helicopter?

It sounds crazy, but that’s exactly what you get at the Extreme 19th at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort in South Africa. With 1,300 feet of elevation at the tee, and measuring nearly 400 yards, it’s legitimately laid claim as the longest par-3 on the planet.

There has yet to be a hole-in-one recorded on the green shaped like the African continent, but various pros and celebrities have made par, including Padraig Harrington and Morgan Freeman.

Planning a trip to South Africa sometime soon? For a cool 2,000 South African rand (about $150 US), you too can play the Signature course at the resort designed by the likes of Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Colin Montgomerie and Bernard Langer.

Finish the 18th, then get ready for the ride of your life. Tee it up, and watch the ball fly, and fly, and fly.
