The third edition of the Barbasol Championship is a critical moment for players in the FedEx Cup bubble.

While the world’s best are vying for eternal glory across the pond at the Open Championship, others are fighting to keep their PGA TOUR cards and make the FedEx Cup Playoffs here at the Barbasol Championship.

Five weeks remain to jockey for position inside the top 125. Those standings that seemed so innocuous when they’d appear on your TV screen back in January are a little more important this time of the year.

Most of the bubble boys around the cutoff line are at the Lake course at Grand National on the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Auburn and Opelika, Alabama, for the Barbasol.

Seven of 11 players at Nos. 120-130 in the FedEx Cup are here to improve their standing, including the No. 125 man, Ben Martin. No. 123 Bubba Watson and No. 127 Aaron Baddeley are at the Open Championship; No. 126 Ryan Palmer and No. 130 Johnson Wagner are off.

Four of my top 10 coming up are jockeying to get inside the top 125, and another is not even a Tour member.

A previous PGA TOUR winner won the first two editions of the Barbasol Championship, Scott Piercy and Baddeley, but I envision that trend to end this year.

Read on to see who it’ll be.
