Barbasol Championship: Top 10 power rankings
Here’s one of the more remarkable golf facts you’ll hear all week: Jim Furyk was ineligible for his first major championship this week since the 1995 Open Championship.

If that doesn’t embody Furyk’s renowned consistency of excellence, I don’t know what does. Furyk will keep his cell phone at the ready (why do I envision that it’s a flip phone?) as he’s No. 3 on the Open alternate list as of Monday morning.
It may be surprising to some that Furyk is playing in Alabama this week, but he needs his FedEx Cup points.
He took the first five weeks of the season off and is scrambling to crack the top 125 after six missed cuts in a row from April to June.
As we’d expect, the 47-year-old has found the form in recent starts. He tied for 23rd at the U.S. Open and tied for 25th at the Travelers Championship.
With two weeks off since, Furyk should be more than ready for his maiden voyage to the Barbasol Championship.
At No. 86 in the world, Furyk is the highest-ranked player in the field. He’s the obvious choice to win, but sometimes avoiding overthinking is a good thing.
I’ve got Furyk to pick up a win this week before he starts a new major start streak next month at the PGA Championship.

Who’s your pick to win the Barbasol? Will Furyk’s deep experience prevail or is it time for a Ben Martin or Patrick Rodgers to set the pace and hoist the trophy in Alabama?
