HARTFORD, WI – JUNE 16: Meen Whee Kim of Korea plays his shot from the fourth tee during the second round of the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills on June 16, 2017 in Hartford, Wisconsin. (Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images) /

Meen Whee Kim isn’t a household name, but he’s the second-highest ranked player in the FedEx Cup rankings in this week’s field. Kim has been a feast or famine player in 2017. The 25-year-old got into contention at the Puerto Rico Open (T5) and was one shot from forcing a playoff at the FedEx St. Jude Classic (T2).

Otherwise, it’s been tough sledding with five other made cuts no higher than T17th in 17 starts to go with two withdrawals. Kim placed T50 at the U.S. Open, too.

Kim took the John Deere Classic off, so he’s rested and comes in with a good putter.

Grand National’s best defense is its undulating greens, which should play well into Kim’s game. He’s No. 42 in strokes gained putting on Tour this year (.344). The formula worked well for a T3 finish at the 2015 Barbasol.

Last year, one of the world’s best putters, Aaron Baddeley, walked away with a one-stroke lead at 18-under.

Kim missed the cut last year and comes in with two missed cuts and a withdrawal in his last three tournaments, but he’s worth the risk in your lineup this week.
