Barbasol Championship: Top 10 power rankings
I rode with Martin near the top of my rankings for the John Deere Classic and I’m riding with him again.
He slightly let me down with a T39 finish, but that doesn’t detract from Martin’s recent form that now has him in the coveted top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings.
Martin’s cuts made streak has climbed to eight in a row and includes a T5 at the Quicken Loans National.
When Martin won his lone PGA TOUR event at the 2014 Shriners, he did it with his putter. He was 54 of 54 from inside six feet and rolled in hundreds of feet of putts.
In 2017, he’s been just slightly above average with the flat stick (92nd strokes gained). Overall this season, he’s been solid in most categories in the top 125 in strokes gained off the tee and approaching the green.
The Clemson graduate isn’t a big threat to go low — a seven-under 64 at Mayakoba is his lowest score this season in relation to par — but he’s one of the safer bets to at least make the weekend.
Martin tied for 20th in his only Barbasol Championship start in 2016.
