Would you believe me if I told you Campbell was the second highest-ranked FedEx Cup point earner in this week’s field? It’s true, which says a little about the field strength, but more of Campbell’s underrated season.

After falling off the map for much of the 2010s, the 43-year-old Texan has recaptured the game that netted him four Tour wins, three Ryder Cup appearances and nearly the 2003 PGA Championship.

He made the playoffs with ease in 2016 and is well on his way this year.

Campbell’s one of the hottest players entering the Barbasol Championship. He tied for ninth at The Greenbrier and tied for 12th at the John Deere Classic in which he was within five strokes of the lead at both.

To boot, Campbell placed T10 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic last month. He has two other top-15s this season.

Campbell owns T48 and T35 finishes in a pair of starts at the Barbasol. His career strength, ballstriking, has been superb this year as evidenced by top 40 marks in strokes gained tee to green and approaching the green. A top-50 mark in SG around the green has only bolstered his resume.

If Campbell is a winner for the first time since 2007, he’ll likely use 2015 champ Scott Piercy’s formula (63/72 greens hit) to claim the crystal trophy.
