Alexander Levy’s fourth European Tour win came this spring at the Volvo China Open and with the two additional top-10s that preceded that victory Levy looked to be heading for a standout season.

He’s cooled off a bit since then and while I have some doubts about what’s happening with his game, I like what I saw during the early season. I’m hoping that his T26 finish last week  at the Scottish Open marks the beginning of a turnaround for the Frenchman.

Like Matt Fitzpatrick, this will be Levy’s Royal Birkdale debut and, in fact, he missed the cut at his only other Open Championship start, in 2015.

If Levy makes you nervous, take a look at Steve Stricker, who’s very experienced and fits the royal Birkdale success profile, or Joost Luiten, who has equivalent experience but may be in a better position right now in terms of his game readiness. PGA TOUR rookie Xander Schauffele, also in Levy’s salary range, is completely inexperienced but is coming to Birkdale with a very hot hand.
