Open Championship 2017

Calling it “The British Open” may strike a sour chord with some, but if 2017 Amateur Champion Harry Ellis can repeat his big-game performance, there will be plenty of pomp and circumstance for a Brit in contention this weekend.

The same goes for another group of supporters based across the Atlantic in northern Florida.

The Florida State University product is one of 28 English golfers looking to give the Claret Jug a short ride home. His win in the 2017 Amateur Championship came after being down four with five holes to play, forcing a playoff and winning on the second hole of bonus golf.

The Open Championship will be the toughest test for the 21-year-old yet, but it’s tough to keep a good Seminole down.

Side note: 2017 U.S. Open champ Brooks Koepka…he’s a Florida State University product, too. Cue the tomahawk chop.

Tee time (EST): 4:25 a.m.

Pairing includes: Darren Clarke, Gary Woodland
