The 2016 European Amateur Champion Luca Cianchetti was also in contention to repeat in 2017, but lost in a playoff to Alfie Plant.

Cianchetti also took home the hardware at the 2015 South of England Championship in a performance that saw him shoot the round of the tournament (66) to move into the lead on the final day, the 2016 Coppa d’Oro Citta di Roma (Gold Cup City of Rome), where he came from five shots behind on the final day, posting a 67 for a two-shot victory, and 2016 Grand Prix of Monticello, where he bested the second place finisher by seven strokes.

Simply put, in big spots, Luca Cianchetti shows up. The Italian amateur showed consistent excellence in the two biggest tournaments of his career thus far.
