If momentum means anything, Alfie Plant might be the best-positioned of the amateur crop to post low scores throughout the tournament.

Plant won the 2017 Amateur Championship at Walton Heath Golf Club just a few weeks ago—taking the title on the fifth playoff hole—beating fellow amateur Cianchetti who was eliminated after three playoff holes in the process.

His seventh-playoff-hole birdie clinched the championship—made possible after sinking a birdie on 18 in regulation to force a three-way playoff.

That’s a lot of extra tournament golf and extra frayed nerves tested.

Staring down a crucial 12-foot putt at the amateur playoffs is not exactly staring down a crucial 12-foot putt with all those fans, TV cameras and famous golfers looking over your shoulder. However, if any amateur might have ice water in his veins, it appears to be Plant.

And at 25 years old, he is the old man of the amateur group at Royal Birkdale (other four are 21).

Tee time(EST): 4:14 a.m.

Pairing includes: Wesley Bryan, Anirban Lahiri
