SOUTHPORT, ENGLAND – JULY 21: Bubba Watson of the United States signals as he tees off on the 9th hole during the second round of the 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale on July 21, 2017 in Southport, England. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) /

This hasn’t been a banner season for Bubba, but he’s beginning to turn it around. The lefty couldn’t go low enough in any round to contend last week at the Open Championship, but he kept it in the ballpark to post four runs of 71 or better and place T27.

Coming off his third straight made cut, Watson is back at Glen Abbey where he placed second behind Jason Day in 2015. Long drivers like Watson tend to be rewarded at this track. If he can improve on his slumping birdie average this season (3.46, 118th), he could win for the first time on Tour since February 2016.

Team Watson will be in familiar climes as his wife is Canadian born. His caddy, Ted Scott, was also on the bag for Grant Waite when he was knocked off by Tiger Woods in 2000 by the infamous fairway bunker shot mentioned in the intro.
