Though not a frequent tournament on his schedule, J.B. Holmes has stuck around the weekend in each of his three Canadian Open starts. His most recent trip across the border netted a T79 in 2015 at Glen Abbey.

The hard hitter is coming off of a T54 at the Open Championship as part of five made cuts in a row. Holmes has locked up a playoffs spot, but he can turn around a lackluster season into something more with a strong showing this week.

A T9 at the Greenbrier and 12th at the U.S. Open has him close. Holmes is 35th in birdie average (3.84) and should be inclined to be aggressive this week.

Holmes is seeking his first PGA TOUR win since 2015 and first career victory outside of the U.S.

The mad dash to make the FedEx Cup playoffs wages on for Jim Furyk. His game has been up-and-down since missing time last fall with a wrist injury.

The 47-year-old is starting to find a rhythm with three made cuts in a row on the heels of six straight misses. Furyk finished T35 last week at the Barbasol Championship, but actually dropped one spot on the FedEx Cup list.

Furyk went back-to-back at the Canadian Open in 2006 and 2007, winning at Hamilton and Angus Glen. He’s done alright at Glen Abbey, too. He placed 13th there in 2016 and finished just three off Jason Day’s pace in 2015 to take fourth.

At No. 2 in driving accuracy and 70th in strokes gained putting, Furyk should be able to give himself lots of birdie tries and is a strong pick to at least make the cut, which he’s done at this event four years running.
