Ladies Scottish Open top-10 power rankings
After a hot run that started in June with a T3 finish at the ShopRite through her T4 finish at the WalMart NW Arkansas Championship Michelle Wie cooled off a big just when many looked for her to make a run at a second major championship title. She had two opportunities, but neither materialized.
Wie finished T20 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and then hit her first real 2017 bump in the road, an injury that led to withdrawal from the U.S. Women’s Open.
Judging by her season-long stats, Wie’s game simply hasn’t returned to the championship level she was playing in 2014 and into 2015, but she’s made remarkable progress, largely because she’s returned to a more conventional putting grip and she’s working hard to strengthen her shot-making accuracy.
Going into the Ladies Scottish Open, Wie’s weaklness will be her putting and whether or not she’ll survive Dundonald Links is probably a question mark for some. I’m willing to take the risk. Wie’s a very experienced competitor and despite her putting problems and troublesome injuries if she’s recovered from her injuries (and I don’t think she would put herself into the field this week if she hadn’t), Wie should perform well. She’s wisely using this week to prep her game for the Ricoh Women’s British Open next week at Kingsbarns.
