I’m betting that Charley Hull’s focus and concentration will be improved this week because she’s playing with many of her past and future Solheim Cup teammates. We all know that with Charley it’s almost always a case of concentration and focus rather than her technical game.

The Ladies Scottish Open will, curiously, be Hull’s first LET start this season, which is probably an indication that she’s going to follow the pattern of Suzann Pettersen, Carlota Ciganda, Azahara Munoz, and Anna Nordqvist and concentrate her energies on LPGA starts, maintaining enough of a tether to the LET to ensure Solheim Cup Team Europe eligibility.

Hull’s a powerful striker of the ball and she’s very good at scrambling but no better than mediocre on the putting surface. She’s more than comfortable playing links golf. It’s an environment she enjoys and that will go a long way toward keeping her focused and on task this week at Dundonald.

If her mind is on her game, I look for Charley Hull to contend. If not, she’ll probably miss the cut, although I think that’s unlikely.
