It doesn’t quite seem right that Jim Furyk meets my sleeper qualifications, but you’d be crazy not to consider him a contender this week at the RBC Canadian Open. He’s enjoyed a ton of success north of the border, with back-to-back victories in 2006 and 2007. Those were at Hamilton and Angus Glen, but he’s carried that over to Glen Abbey nearly as well.

Furyk has top-15 finishes in each of his last three trips to Glen Abbey (2013, 2015 and 2016), and another one back in 2008. He’s had a tough year – for the first time in over 20 years, Furyk was ineligible for The Open – but the week off could provide both extra rest and a little bit of motivation heading into the final stretch of the season.

"“I’ve got no one to blame but myself,” Furyk said last week. “I’ve had some shining moments since last summer but since I’ve come back from (wrist) surgery, I haven’t played consistent.”"

Furyk has gotten back on track, slowly, in recent weeks. A solid outing at the U.S. Open (tied for 23rd) led to a T-26 at the Travelers Championship. Just last week, playing in the Barbasol Championship, Furyk went 69-68-68-68 to finish tied for 35th place. The building blocks are falling into place, and a trip to a friendly, familiar course this week can’t hurt.
