They say the view from the top is a lonely one. Now, though, DJ has a little bit of company, and a little less lonely of a view. For the first time in seemingly forever, Johnson has been unseated as the undisputed No. 1 player in the FedEx Cup, but that doesn’t mean he’s falling off the pace completely.

Part of that has to do with Jordan Spieth’s spectacular play, of course, but it was Johnson who left the door open for the newly-crowned Open Champion in the first place. Back-to-back missed cuts at the Memorial and the U.S. Open were surprising, but not immediately alarming. He tried to make a run at Royal Birkdale with a Saturday round of 64, but a Sunday 77 absolutely sunk any chance he had.

Those three tournaments won’t be the last we see of DJ this year, though. He’s the defending champion at Firestone, where he’ll be a favorite at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. And although he’s missed two cuts in three appearances at Quail Hollow, the PGA Championship will be his first appearance since 2011. Six years can make a world of difference.

And seriously, how great would it be to see DJ and Spieth going at it down the stretch at East Lake with $10 million on the line? A little bit of added drama never hurt anybody.
