Daniel Berger’s entire season could have taken a different turn a couple of weeks ago. If it weren’t for Jordan Spieth’s miraculous bunker shot to close out the Travelers Championship, Berger could have taken his second title in three weeks, and made a dramatic leap in these ranks. Of course, Spieth did, and there’s a reason the leader board looks the way it does now.

That said, Berger has kept grinding all year to reach the heights he has now, and he’s now fairly comfortable inside the top ten. In 20 starts, Berger has racked up six top-ten finishes, a pair of runner-ups (including an early-season run in China at the WGC-HSBC Champions) and a win in Memphis.

With a point average of 78.65 per start, that’s top-ten points even with five missed cuts. The talent is obviously there, and this is just Berger’s third season on the PGA TOUR. Where he can go from here is nearly limitless, and fans will get used to seeing his name atop leader boards around the world.

Berger could make some moves late in the season, especially with the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, where he tied for 17th last year. He’s proven he can hang with the likes of Spieth and Dustin Johnson all year, so this stretch run should be nothing new to him.
