Jon Rahm has been an absolute revelation in the 2017 PGA TOUR season. It’s not that we didn’t know he could be good. He proved that when he started racking up top-tens in limited action last year. But to get this big, this fast? That’s a strong run no matter what the expectations were.

As good as Rahm is, he can still be something of an enigma. He ran away with the Irish Open a few weeks ago, making him a heavy favorite at Royal Birkdale. He never truly got on the pace, and found himself finish a middling T-44. The same fiery competitiveness that makes him great can all too often get too deep in his head, leading to some roller coaster results.

Still, he’s only missed two cuts in 17 PGA TOUR starts in 2017, and like Fowler, he’s averaging sixth-place points in every tournament he plays. That’ll be a trend as we work our way up the rankings, but this can be more of a window into the future, if we begin to look at this as a trend, not a flash in the pan.

Rahm came onto the TOUR with high expectations, and thus far has proceeded to blow them all out of the water. When we thought the biggest stages in golf would throw him off, he rose to the occasion. If he continues to do that with the FedEx Cup Playoffs just around the corner, he could make even more history.
