Webb and Kerr lead the way

I like to be challenged mentally – Cristie Kerr

On a cold and windy Thursday in Ayrshire Cristie Kerr went out early and carded a bogey-free 6-under 66.

Karrie Webb went out late. It was colder and windier and she carded a 7-under 65.

And the pair are happily leading the way at the LPGA-Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned Ladies Scottish Open.

Links golf doesn’t suit everybody but it clearly suits Karrie Webb and Cristie Kerr.

The Hall of Famer was on her game Thursday.

Starting behind the veterans, who aren’t likely to relinquish their edge willingly, Stacy Lewis, Pornanong Phatlum, Inbee Park, and Sei Young Kim are close enough to make a play for the top of the board if they’re able to manage the weather conditions.

So Yeon Ryu and Ariya Jutanugarn, both starting at 1-under, have more ground to make up today. And Lydia Ko, Morgan Pressel, and Paula Creamer need to be thinking today about making the cut. They’re all flirting with the projected +3 cut line.

Second round play begins at 6:45am local time (GME +1). Check here for pairings and tee times. Golf Channel begins broadcast coverage of the Ladies Scottish Open 2nd round at 9:30am ET.
