Senior Open Championship

Bernhard Langer got some company at the top of the Senior Open Championship leaderboard on Friday in the form of American Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman, Steve Flesch, Billy Mayfair, and Argentina’s Mauricio Molina.

The field continued to struggle with testing conditions, which experienced players like Lehman know how to manage, as he explained;

"Golf is about momentum, and if you can get off to a good start in bad weather and you can find some kind of rhythm where you’re plodding along, making pars, and managing, then you can deal with conditions like that."

Judging by his tweet, John Daly didn’t entirely agree with Lehman’s measured attitude about weather conditions:

Still, the conditions have been an undeniable factor at Royal Porthcawl. The +13 cut line says it all.  Fred Couples is taking his +8 into the weekend, as is John Daly, who’s probably feeling grateful to be starting Saturday at +10. At +15 Fred Funk will be sitting out the weekend as will Paul McGinley at +18.

Third round play at Royal Porthcawl, in continuing testing weather conditions, begins at 7:50 local time (GMT +1), with Langer and Lehman playing in the final group and starting at 2:45pm.
