Rickie Fowler continues to be the guy who’s just right there when it comes to winning the big ones. In 15 PGA TOUR starts in the 2016-17 season, Fowler has 11 top-25 finishes and seven inside the top ten. His worst made-cut finish was a T-60 at The PLAYERS Championship, when he blew up for a 79 on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass.

You look at his numbers this season, and you’d be shocked to see that he’s only won one time, at the Honda Classic all the way back in February. His WGC and major record since then is nearly flawless: T16-T11-T5-T22. But with the next two weeks bringing about the biggest events remaining on the schedule, Fowler will look to find another gear at Firestone.

History will be on Fowler’s side in that endeavor this week. In seven career appearances at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Fowler has four top ten finishes, and three straight from 2014-16. In 2011, his second Firestone start, Fowler finished in second place behind Adam Scott, who led the field by four strokes.

This entire year has been centered around Fowler preparing himself for the majors. With Quail Hollow – the site of Fowler’s first TOUR win – just a week away, there’d be no better warm-up than a victory over a stacked WGC field at Firestone.
