In June, Jason Dufner prevailed at the Memorial Tournament, winning by three shots over Rickie Fowler and Anirban Lahiri at Muirfield Village. It was Dufner’s first victory since the CareerBuilder Challenge in January of 2016. Oh, and he did it even though he shot 77 on Saturday. Talk about making a statement.

Dufner struggled at Erin Hills, shooting 76-75 to miss the cut at the U.S. Open. He took some time off, got back in action at the Scottish Open, then turned in a great weekend at Royal Birkdale, closing the Open in 66-68 to finish tied for 14th place.

That’s kind of been Dufner’s season in a nutshell. Overall he’s played some very solid golf, but he’s only truly contended a handful of times. This week, though, with no threat of a cut looming, Dufner’s value increases nicely in daily fantasy formats.

This will be Dufner’s fifth trip to the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, and he’s got a pair of top-ten finishes (2012 and 2013) on his resume. He wasn’t able to crack the top-50 in either of his last two starts at Firestone, but given his recent solid play, I’m not too concerned with that risk.

You can’t stack your lineup with all the top guys, and finding those “hidden gems” is key to winning any daily format. At just $7,200 on DraftKings, Dufner is an awesome low-risk, high-reward play for the lower tiers of your team.
