These 5 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational sleepers could surprise the top-heavy field at Firestone CC.

The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational assembles the best of the best this week at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, but don’t expect a slam-dunk victory.

The top 56 players in the world are all in the 77-player field set to take on the par-70, 7,400-yard South course.

Still, in and outside of those 56 players are some players who cause you to check out the qualification page to see how they made it in the field (okay, maybe that’s just me).

Paul Lawrie is making just his 11th start of the year from earning a bid winning the Dimension Data Pro-Am on the Sunshine Tour in February. Who knew!

Satoshi Kodaira has played just four times west of Asia since 2015, but found a way in via his standing on the Japan Tour order of merit.

It’s not my intention to diminish these tours, but rather a testament to the unique ways players can qualify for these tournaments not afforded at most events.

ProGolfNow’s Brandon Raper has tapped the top of Bridgestone field with his Top 10 Power Rankings and taken a look at some options for your team with his Fantasy Tips. But let’s not forget the sleepers in the field.

For this, I have five sleepers to watch out for this week, particularly if you’re accustomed to a PGA TOUR heavy diet.
