WGC-Bridgestone Invitational: Top five sleepers in the Firestone CC field
Is Bernd Wiesberger the most underrated golfer in the world? He very well may be.
He’s certainly the pride of Austria, racking up 18 made cuts in 18 starts in 2017. He won’t jeopardize that stat in this week’s no-cut event, but it’s a sign he’ll likely be on the upper half of the leaderboard.
Wiesberger was one of few to slow down Tommy Fleetwood with a win at the Shenzhen International in April. He also fared well at the always strong Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, taking fourth in January.
A final round 73 kept him from ascending higher than a tie for 16th at the U.S. Open. Still, Wiesberger’s proven himself well against strong competition.
The 31-year-old has just two starts at the WGC-Bridgestone, but I like his precision off the tee and with his irons to bode well this week. He’s 40th in Europe in driving accuracy and 35th in greens in regulation.
