Northern Ireland has a young gem of a golfer at the very start of a promising career.

Belfast native, by way of the Arizona desert, Olivia Mehaffey will be in the field in Scotland. She is currently the ninth ranked amateur golfer in the official World Amateur Golf Rankings.

She was a main cog in the 2016 Curtis Cup victory for the Great Britain and Ireland team. The wins kept rolling in last year with victories in the Irish Women’s Open Championship and Welsh Ladies Open Stroke Play Championship.

Perhaps her best golf came this spring as a Sun Devil.

Mehaffey played dominant golf in helping Arizona State University win the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship.

She won all three of her match play matches during the NCAA tournament.

Did I mention she was only a freshman this past season?

Sometimes the new talent doesn’t feel the pressure. Mehaffey seems to be the one applying the pressure to her competition.
