Carlota Ciganda loves the match play format and she’s a deadly match play competitor. It’s that simple. At Colorado Golf Club in 2013 Ciganda terrified her opponents and it didn’t matter who she was paired with. She won when she played with Suzann Pettersen. She won when she played with Azahara Muñoz. She defeated Morgan Pressel at singles.

In 2014 at the inaugural International Crown Carlota Ciganda teamed up with Beatriz Ricari, Azahara Muñoz, and Belen Mozo to romp through the field. The media dubbed Team Spain the Spanish Armada for good reason. They were invincible.

Ciganda delivered a similar performance at St. Leon-Rot. She and Mel Reid were simply unbeatable. She and Lexi Thompson halved their singles match.

Look for Captain Sörenstam to put Carlota Ciganda to work immediately and keep her on the field. Her energy is inexhaustible and she’s easily among the most skilled match play tacticians on the Team Europe playing squad. Sörenstam will be able to depend on Ciganda to make good strategy decisions on the spot.

The Americans will need to send their best to do battle with the Spaniard.
