The LPGA rookie is bringing three top-10 finishes to the tee in Des Moines and a tremendous amount of raw athletic talent. She’s long off the tee and if she’s also a bit wild the broad fairways at the Des Moines Golf and County Club may save her from the worst of the rough. And Yin can put. She ranks 15th on the Tour in overall putting average and 20th in putts per GIR.

Yin can deliver the goods under pressure. She finished T21 at the ANA Inspiration, T36 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, and T11 at the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Who will Captain Inkster select to provide some on-course mentoring to Angel Yin? Cristie Kerr is the obvious choice. Kerr lobbied hard for Yin as a captain’s pick. Yet Inkster would be breaking up a proven winning pairing to put Yin with Kerr. Other logical choices might be Stacy Lewis and Gerina Piller, but to pair Yin and Piller might be putting all her long ball strikers in one basket.

We’ll just have to wait and see who is paired with Angel Yin.
