This PGA Tour rookie has begun to grab headlines for his game instead of his missteps on social media. The 23-year-old Raleigh native is competing in his home state this week on the heels of a strong stretch of golf.

Murray won the Barbasol Championship opposite the Open Championship and posted two scores in the 60s en route to a T22 at the PGA.

As most rookies are, Murray has been streaky with five missed cuts in a row at the beginning of the year preceding a streak of nine made.

While not an overly challenging course – average winning score at Sedgefield is about 17-under — this will be Murray’s first time seeing it.

A first-timer has not won at Sedgefield in the Wyndham’s last 10 years there.

Murray can hit it a mile and has looked a lot better around the greens in recent weeks.

He was erratic at Quail Hollow last week, but all other signs indicate Murray could keep trending in the right direction this week.
