If you’re a fantasy golf fan – and read my DraftKings picks this week – you know that I like Rory Sabbatini as a potentially high performer this week already. That isn’t just from a fantasy perspective, either.

The 41-year-old brings a veteran presence to this week’s final regular season stop. A six-time winner on the PGA TOUR and former top ten player in the world, there’s little that Sabbatini hasn’t dealt with a dozen times already.

Sabbatini is facing an uphill battle this week, ranked just 148th in the FedEx Cup. He’ll need a huge finish to even give himself a shot at the FedEx Cup Playoffs. However, there’s reason to believe that he can thrive at Sedgefield this week.

For starters, he’s done it before. Back in 2013, Sabbatini finished tied for eighth at 10-under par. Then there’s his recent form. Sabbatini endured a five-month stretch from February through June, during which he missed seven cuts, withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship, and finished 37th in Puerto Rico.

In his last five starts, though, Sabbatini has four top-25 finishes, recently finishing in 17th place at the Barracuda Championship. Through all that, he still ranks 42nd on TOUR in both driving accuracy and birdie average.

It’s a long shot, but that’s why they call them sleepers. If Sabbatini can keep it together for four rounds, he can contend at Sedgefield again.
