The top player in the FedEx Cup Playoffs by virtue of five straight top-15 finishes, Matsuyama carries the highest salary this week for a reason. While I like to avoid the absolute top of the pay chart in most weeks for the sake of flexibility down the roster, this is one week where you can make a play.

There’s no course history to be taken into account, so we’re looking for pure top-end value. Matsuyama gives us that in spades, even taking up $11,500 of your $50,000 cap.

That’s not to say that Matsuyama brings no risk at all, but he doesn’t stay down for long, and that’s reassuring for the DFS format. The season-long numbers bear that out.

The world No. 2 player leads the TOUR in birdie average, ranks sixth in eagles and third in adjusted scoring. Even with average putting, Matsuyama puts himself in position so often that he almost can’t help but put down a handful of birdies on an “off day”.

Again, I don’t often endorse the top-salaried player in any given week, but I truly don’t believe there’s similar value everywhere. You’re going to stick with the hot hand until he shows that he’s ready to slow down.
