Louis Oosthuizen, somehow, is still one of those guys fans don’t seem to expect quite enough out of. No, at 34 years old, the South African star isn’t going to make a bunch of headlines or blow up social media. But, he’ll take care of business between the ropes, and that trait knows no age.

In Oosthuizen’s last two PGA TOUR starts, he’s finished tied for second (PGA Championship) and tied for tenth (The Northern Trust.) In just three trips to the Dell Technologies Championship (nee Deutsche Bank), Oosthuizen has finished second, 12th and eighth, respectively. Those aren’t phony, once-in-a-lifetime numbers. We’ll have to wait and see what tricks Oosthuizen has up his sleeve, but frankly, it doesn’t look like he’ll need them.

Oosthuizen has a unique approach to the game that not everybody has: the PGA TOUR keeps track of six official “strokes gained” stats – off the tee, approaching the green, around the green, putting, tee to green, and strokes-gained twitter.) He’s not terribly powerful, nor is he deadlier with a putter than most, but I believe that if that consistency continues, the results can’t help but follow.

Oosthuizen has a chance to make something special happen, and if he’s peaking right now – and it looks like he is – he’ll be good to go in Boston.
