Martin Kaymer will be stepping onto the grounds at Albatross for the first time. He’s been quiet of late with last week at the Made in Denmark his only official start since The Open after pulling out of the PGA Championship with a shoulder injury.
Assuming he’s back close to full health as he claims, there’s no reason to think he can’t shoot toward the top against a field with just a handful of world top-100 talent to compete against.
Kaymer’s T31 in Denmark included a four-under 67 on Saturday and is a good first step back.
The German admitted he had been playing through pain in weeks before and up to The Open, which explains the dip in results after a strong start to 2017.
Kaymer welcomed the turn of the new year with 10 made cuts in a row, two of which were top-fives and only one finish outside the top 50.
It might be this week, or it might be the next, but if Kaymer is swinging freely he should be back to contending for wins sooner rather than later.
