Dell Technologies Championship: Sleeper picks at TPC Boston
With 96 players set to tee off at the Dell Technologies Championship on Friday, these five sleepers will play for their FedEx Cup lives, and look to thrive at TPC Boston.
Take a look at the last nine FedEx Cup Playoffs and you’ll see a who’s who of top players in the world. Dating back to the beginning of the 2015 playoffs, the list reads: Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Day, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, McIlroy and now Johnson last week at The Northern Trust.
It goes without saying that if you’ve made it to the Playoffs in any shape or form, you’ve had at least a decent season. Still, the cream really seems to rise to the top on the road to East Lake.
That’s not to say underdogs haven’t prevailed. Few could have predicted Billy Horschel’s hot streak that propelled him all the way to a Tour Championship and FedEx Cup title in 2014. Heath Slocum won The Northern Trust in 2009 (then The Barclays) at No. 124 in the FedEx Cup rankings entering the week.
With 100 players remaining – 96 in action – this week at TPC Boston for the Dell Technologies Championship, there are plenty of chances for someone to go from fighting to make it to next week’s BMW Championship to finding the winner’s circle and locking up a spot in Atlanta.
Here’s my prediction on five players who could make a dramatic ascent up the FedEx Cup rankings this week.
