Kevin Tway is one of the bubble boys this week at No. 69 in the FedEx Cup rankings. The top 70 move on to next week’s BMW Championship. The 29-year-old son of former PGA Championship winner, Bob Tway, has had a solid season en route to his first FedEx Cup Playoffs appearance.

In his second year on Tour, and first since 2014, Tway secured his Tour card for 2017-18 with ease, making 18 of 24 cuts in 2016-17. He tied for 43rd last week at The Northern Trust and has played the weekend in seven of his last eight events. His only miss was by one stroke at the Wyndham Championship, despite a second-round 66.

Tway has just five rounds over par in his last seven starts and went low for a 63 at the John Deere Classic.

TPC Boston’s lack of penal rough and wide fairways typically lends itself to top ballstrikers, which Tway isn’t. He’s inside the top 80 on Tour in all strokes gained categories except for approach to the green.

Nonetheless, Tway’s shown he can post solid scores at a lot of different tracks and has to feel he’s playing with house money advancing this far. I could see him getting in the mix for his first Tour victory this week.
