Omega European Masters top 10 player power rankings
Smith has taken the European Tour by storm this year and has showed little to no signs of hitting a rookie wall.
The 25-year-old Englishman won in July at the Porsche European Open and has made 10 cuts in a row dating back to April. One of those includes a T9 at the PGA Championship in his major championship debut. Another win or two could even have him in the mix for a Race to Dubai title.
There doesn’t seem to be a moment or stage too big for Smith, who’s won on every level he’s played.
Smith brings a lot to the table statistically. He’s sixth on the European Tour in scrambling, 29th in putts per round, 13th in greens in regulation, 12th in driving distance and fourth in driving accuracy.
While it will take a few years of such performance to anoint him as an elite talent, he’ll be in contention for a Ryder Cup spot next year if this keeps up.
As far as I could tell this century, a first-timer at the Omega European Masters has never won in this century. Smith could be the one to change that.
