The TOUR Championship: Power Ranking the top ten at East Lake
Name a hotter golfer in the world than Marc Leishman right now. I’d say I’ll wait, but that wouldn’t be good for either of us, because frankly, I don’t think one exists.
Leishman made his first impact on the season back in March when he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He came back from three shots behind on Sunday at Bay Hill, overtaking both Charley Hoffman and Kevin Kisner (and holding off Rory McIlroy) at the King’s place. At that time, Dustin Johnson was the hottest thing in golf, and as the season wore on, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth both took over that spotlight. Leishman was largely left in the shadows, at least when it came to the overall season picture.
However, through it all, Leishman kept at it. Missing just three cuts all season, the 33-year-old Aussie chipped away at the rankings, racking up top-25 finishes (15 total) while popping into the top ten a handful of times. The last two weeks – and the nearly 2,800 FedEx Cup points he’s earned – are simply the next step in the process.
Leishman now gets a chance he’s worked for almost a decade to earn. His last trip to East Lake came in 2009, and even though he hasn’t come close since then, he looks more than ready to fight for the FedEx Cup, and everything that comes with it.
