Alexander Lévy is another former Portugal Masters champion on this list, his having come in 2014.

The tournament was shortened to 36 holes in 2014 due to rain, but Lévy made enough birdies for an entire week, going 63-61 to reach 18-under for a three-stroke victory. His score in relation to par matched David Lynn’s 72-hole win at this event in 2013.

Lévy missed the cut here in 2015 and didn’t come back in 2016, but based on his play this year there’s reason to believe the 27-year-old could be in for a good week.

With 2018 Ryder Cup qualification beginning for Europeans a couple weeks ago, each week will be crucial for Lévy who will aim to make his first team next year in Paris.

Lévy should be pretty fresh this week. He took last week off after a missed cut at the Omega European Masters, his only start since the PGA Championship.

He has a win this year at the Volvo China Open in April and recently lost in a playoff to rising star Jordan Smith in late July at the Porsche European Open.

Lévy is inside the top 100 in just about every statistical category on the European Tour. He’s the third-highest ranked in the field in the Race to Dubai and one of the more talented players in the field. He can have a propensity to make birdies in bunches, which is a requisite to win this event.
