European Tour: Portugal Masters top 10 power rankings
This is one of the best value plays you’ll find this week. Bjerregaard offers a nice mix of past course history, solid recent form and an under-the-radar status.
Just inside the world top 400, the 26-year-old Dane is in search of his first career individual win. Finding it in Portugal might not be too big of a stretch to think about.
Bjerregaard has posted par or better in all 10 rounds at Dom Pedro, nine of which were under par. His nine-under Sunday 63 vaulted him to finish T12 last year and weekend 66s led to a T9 in 2015.
Like Otaegui, he’s shaken off a slow to start to the year to round into shape in recent weeks. Bjerregaard has been four straight top-50 finishes including a T9 two weeks ago against a solid field at the European Masters.
While it didn’t count for world ranking points, Bjerregaard teamed with fellow counryman Thorbjørn Olesen to win the innaugurall Golf Sixes in May, a 16-team exhibition.
Bjerregaard can crush the ball, coming in at No. 9 on the European Tour in distance.
If Bjerregaard has his wedges dialed in, he could ascend the leaderboard at a course he’s come to enjoy. After playing four weeks in a row, I expect him to be recharged and ready to go after taking last week’s KLM Open off.
