British Masters Power Rankings
Tyrrell Hatton is rested and ready this week, coming off of two weeks of rest in the wake of his first top-10 since March at the Omega European Masters (T3).
The 25-year-old Englishman from High Wycombe played well at the British Masters last year, tying for ninth with four rounds under par. He tied for 13th in 2015.
If the conditions turn nasty, that could mean it’s advantage Hatton. He’s a strong links player, and while Close House is more parkland style, I like him to grind out some good scores.
“One of the strengths of my short game is that when conditions get tough I can grind out a decent score,” Hatton told the Telegraph in 2016.
While Hatton quickly rose through the ranks in recent years, it’s not like he was feasting off of the European Tour’s lower rung tournaments. A fantastic 2016 offered his lone win came at the prestigious Alfred Dunhill Links (coming up next week). That year he also posted quality runner-up finishes at the DP World Tour Championship and at the Scottish Open in 2016 and finished top-10 at The Open and the PGA Championship.
This year, Hatton has made 11-of-18 cuts with five top-10s including two third-place finishes.
With European Tour Ryder cup qualification beginning a couple weeks ago, Hatton could help his chances of making the team for the first time with a strong showing this week.
