Ian Poulter is just about back to vintage form after scrambling to keep his PGA Tour status alive this spring.
The 41-year-old Englishman from Hitchin hasn’t missed a cut worldwide since April, making 13 weekends in a row. He still seeks his first tournament win since 2012, but he’s done just about everything else you can do.
Poulter tied for second at The PLAYERS and had top-10s at the Scottish Open and Canadian Open.
His renaissance has been a product of a strong short game (third on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around the green). He’s also turned around his iron game, going from -.754 strokes gained tee-to-green in 2016 to .911, good for 22nd overall.
Poulter missed last year’s British Masters due to injury and tied for 33rd while acting as host at Old Woburn in 2015. The 12-time European Tour winner is seeking his first victory on home soil.
“I had some good performances over the summer, including on British soil, and the game has mostly felt pretty good this year,” Poulter said in a European Tour press release, citing a T14 at The Open. “Clearly I’d love to get a win before the season finishes and the British Masters would obviously be a special place for it to happen.”
He comes in off of a week of rest after his FedEx Cup Playoffs run came to a halt at the BMW Championship.
