Web.com Tour graduates and a returning former champion highlight the list of top sleepers for the PGA TOUR’s season opener at the Safeway Open.

The FedEx Cup standings have been refreshed and a new batch of rookies is ready to prove what they’ve got as the PGA Tour offseason is in the books. What a long 11 days it was, huh?

The beginning of the 2017-18 wraparound season begins this week with the Safeway Open at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California.

Last year we were bamboozled into thinking Silverado would be the site of Tiger Woods’ comeback attempt. There are no such false flags this year as the event enters its 11th edition.

The fall events aren’t known for elite fields. Besides a few household names like Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson, this week belongs to the rookies and journeymen seeking to get out and earn a paycheck before the big dogs tend to establish themselves after the New Year.

At this point, everyone’s on equal footing in the new FedEx Cup race. We all know not every player is created equal, though.

Here are five players who are flying under the radar who could be a wine country winner this week.
