PGA TOUR Power Rankings: 2017 CIMB Classic
The PGA TOUR’s “Asian swing” begins with the CIMB Classic. Who will top our Power Rankings for week two of the new season?
The PGA TOUR’s “Asian swing” is one of the most fun parts of the entire year’s schedule. While the European Tour has the market cornered on globe-hopping players, the PGA TOUR doesn’t get outside the United States much. These next three weeks will give casual fans a unique glimpse of some of the world’s best courses. Odd time zones aside, the golf shouldn’t be half bad, either.
The three-week junket all builds up to the season’s first World Golf Championship event, the HSBC Champions in China. However, it starts at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A freshly-named member of the TPC network of courses, TPC Kuala Lumpur has hosted major events from the Asian, European, and LPGA Tours for years.
The Classic joined the PGA TOUR schedule in full in 2013. An American player has won each year, and while our Power Rankings feature players from several nations, a member of Team USA is likely to head the class once again in 2017.
This week will feature 78 of the world’s top players. While the field isn’t quite as star-studded as it’s been in years past, that doesn’t mean we won’t be treated to some fantastic golf. TPC Kuala Lumpur has been known to be something of a gunslinger’s track, with winning scores pushing -20 routinely.
As always, we’ve got a breakdown of your top ten players this week at the CIMB Classic. Who will top our Power Rankings? Let’s get it started.
