Peter Malnati beat the odds to win a rain-soaked Monday finish at the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2015. He first earned his PGA Tour card in 2014 but had to go back to the Web.com Tour after a disappointing stint.

Things weren’t going much better the second time around in the big leagues as the Indianan missed his last three cuts on the Web, his first on the PGA Tour and scraped a T56 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

That all changed as Malnati dialed in to hit plenty of greens on the way to winning by one at 18-under in 2015. He was in the 60s all four days and played his final 12 holes in five-under to post a clubhouse lead that held up.

The 30-year-old has had a modest 2017 with 15 cuts made in 23 tries. He just can’t quite get over the hump as his highest finish is a T18 at the alternate field Barbasol Championship. He’s made 11 cuts in a row entering this week, the last being a T30 at the Safeway Open.

Malnati can leak oil on the way to the greens (166th strokes gained tee-to-green) but if he can get there in one piece he’s phenomenal at 16th in SG putting.
