This week’s Power Rankings are a hair more European Tour-centric than you’ll usually see, but if this is your first time visiting, that has a tendency to happen in these WGC events. Part of that is the qualifying process – in order to automatically qualify, a player must be inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings. If they are not, they can only get in by a win in a recognized tournament on one of the major Tours around the world.

Fleetwood has enjoyed an outstanding year in 2017, and he’s pushing his way toward the top of the world rankings. With two wins in 2017 – the Abu Dhabi HSBC in January, and the Open de France in July – Fleetwood also enjoyed his best finish in a major to date, placing fourth at Erin Hills in the U.S. Open.

The 26-year-old heads to Sheshan coming off back-to-back top-25 finishes at the Alfred Dunhill Links and the Italian Open. In three trips to the WGC-HSBC Champions, Fleetwood has placed in the top-25 twice, with his worst finish a tie for 30th in 2015. Look for him to continue to build towards both the end of the European Tour season, as well as the start of the new PGA TOUR year.
