Jason Day WGC HSBC Champions
JEJU, SOUTH KOREA – OCTOBER 22: Jason Day of Australia hits his tee shot on the 5th hole during the final round of the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges on October 22, 2017 in Jeju, South Korea. (Photo by Matt Roberts/Getty Images) /

Call me a believer in Jason Day again. Really, I should have been all along. He’s gotten his game back in line in a big way over the past few months, and the results are showing it. Since missing the cut at the Travelers Championship in June, Day hasn’t finished any worse than T-27. He’s run off three top-tens in that eight tournament stretch, and he almost did it again at the CJ Cup, finishing tied for 11th.

We’ve known for a while now that Day’s struggles last year were almost entirely due to his personal life taking over. And you know what? Good. Not that anybody should ever have to deal with some of the stuff Day carried with him, but there’s only one way he can come back from those things, and that’s stronger on the course than ever before. And considering that he’s been a major-winning World No. 1 player not that long ago, that’s scary.

This will be Day’s first trip to the WGC-HSBC Champions, and his game seems custom fit for what could turn into a major shootout. Even as he fought through a tough season in 2016, Day came out 24th in adjusted scoring and sixth in birdie average. This will be the perfect stage for him to show that he’s back and better than ever.
