Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Top 10 power rankings
Kevin Chappell has chilled out since going 1-1-1 for the winning American Presidents Cup team. He made his first international team appearance of his career on the strength of his first PGA Tour win earlier in the year.
Based on a 2016 with three runner-ups and a third-place, PGA Tour fans knew the 31-year-old was on the cusp of breaking through. He finally did at the Valero Texas Open and has played solidly since.
Chappell was in the mix to win at the FedEx St. Jude Classic (T4), made the cut at the U.S. Open and Open Championship and piled up a couple more top-10s.
This desert event hasn’t exactly been an oasis for Chappell — he hasn’t finished higher than 40th in two cuts made in three starts — but he also did not tee it up last year when his game began to really round into shape.
If Chappell is locked in for this event, I envision him making his seventh cut in a row worldwide, and then some.
