Utahan Tony Finau isn’t too far from home here in Sin City. TPC Summerlin has felt like home for his wallet, too. At the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Finau’s finished: T7 in 2014, T16 in 2015 and T41 last year. Seven of those 12 rounds were in the 60s.

This is the kind of event where a feast or famine player like Finau can thrive if he’s playing well. He was ninth on Tour in eagles made and made four birdies per round, good for 11th.

Finau has been on a nice streak that last saw him tie for 11th at the WGC-HSBC Champions. He was near the top of the leaderboard after round one’s 67 but couldn’t keep up the pace.

He’s come close to winning quite often lately with a pair of T7s at the BMW Championship and TOUR Championship preceding a solo runner-up at the Safeway Open where he was two shots from forcing a playoff.

Finau is coming off playing the last two legs of the Asian swing, which could be a point of concern. However, the last time Finau time zone hopped back to North America he followed up his T27 at the Open Championship with a T5 at the Canadian Open the next week.
