Nedbank Golf Challenge Top 10 power rankings
The Race to Dubai Final Series marches on with this week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge
Once a 12- and then 30-player silly season event, the Nedbank Golf Challenge has elevated to become the second of three legs in the Race to Dubai Final Series.
Seventy-six players will be at Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa, at the event once known as the Million Dollar Challenge (the purse is $7.5 million USD this time). The par-72 course is one of the longest in the world at 7,981 yards though that number is a bit misleading considering GPCC’s perch about 3,500 feet above sea level. GPCC is widely regarded as one of the top courses in South Africa, if not the best. It features Kikuyu grass in the fairways and rough and bent grass greens.
Winning scores at GPCC tend to reach the mid to upper teens under par, though Alex Norén was the only to reach double digits under par (-14) last year. The Nedbank Golf Challenge is a no-cut event with players guaranteed at least $13,000 for their troubles.
The weather projects to be warm with temperatures in the 90s with little wind. There could be rain and some wind gusts late on Sunday, but otherwise the tournament looks like a go.
Five of the top 10 and 18 of the top 25 in the Race to Dubai standings will tee it up this week. Here’s a look at 10 who are primed to have their time in the sun in Sun City.
